Gimme a V!!

Last night, the good husband took the good daughter into Urgent Care to get a last minute Sports Physical.
Volleyball tryouts start TODAY! I know it's going to be more competitive this year; more people will be cut then ever (the school's attendance has doubled!). Last year was Isabel's first year playing - I hope she makes it again!!

Please cross your fingers and toes and eyeballs!!

Mirror, Mirror off the Wall

This past weekend, among a dozen other small chores, the husband and I jumped the gun. It's funner (more fun?) that way. The floor in my formals are still bare, and furniture is askew, but I wanted to get some work done in the Guest Bath.

Generally how it occurs is that I bring a tool or two in from the garage. A screw driver here. A roll of Blue tape there. "Honey, do you think I taped this well enough?" Once "honey" gets up to look, I know I've piqued his interest. And down comes the HUGE builder-grade mirror. YAY!!!

Only Instagram shots of this people, I was too lazy to take out the camera!

Since we are replacing the old mirror with a smaller mirror (that we have yet to research or purchase) that will be centered only on the sink, new lighting is in order. Hey, I don't make the rules people.

I made a quick run to Home Depot and Lowes yesterday to see what our new lighting options are. I know we need oil-rubbed bronze since our bathroom fixtures are all oil-rubbed bronze, including the faucet. I want to keep the Guest Bath BRIGHT, casual, farmhouse and vintage, as we are putting bead board on the main wall (instead of the board & batten I originally had planned - more on that in a different post).

Here are a few options I found... Keep in the mind, the glass will actually be CLEAR (more vintage looking and capable of bringing out the best light).  To me, Lowes had the best options. You could pick your fixture, then pick the glass lamp/piece/thing that you wanted. Kind of custom.

The two sconces are from Home Depot, but Lowes had something similar. However, I think my heart is palpating faster each time I look at the 3-light bar. It just feels right for the space. While we opted to take out the medicine cabinet, too (oops, forgot to mention that, did I?), I think trying to put a sconce in that left corner along with a new mirror might be tight.

Okay, enough tiny Instagram photos for this post. I promise to charge my camera and have it handy for my next post. ;)  We are moving right along on the guest bathroom and I cannot wait to slap some paint on those walls and really start to see the small space take shape. Now if I can only decide on a paint color.

Dun Dun Dunnnnnnnn.

Speaking of Snapshots

You may have noticed that I have a new picture off to the right.

My friend, Amy, is a local photographer and willingly accepted my request to shoot me.

I had no one to hide behind. Do you know how awkward that is? Thankfully, Amy made me feel super comfortable and we were able to get some good shots. I am so not photogenic (as I've stated before), but as my kids put it... that's how I look. Whatcha gonna do?!

This last one is nice... but I feel like I should be co-anchoring with Ron Burgundy.

Just trying to keep it classy.

Lovely & Lacey

I love when I stumble upon the perfect thing. I thought I knew what I wanted for my kitchen's window coverings; I was wrong.

I was on Pinterest looking through the house decor pins for nothing in particular and came across this picture:

Now... I've been stalking Layla's blog for quite a while, so I knew it wasn't her house. But after I clicked over to see the deets, I realized that Layla had been visiting a friend and took pictures of her kitchen.

I love everything about the dressings. The lace, the bulky, black clips. Hey, look - a pendant light! Similar to mine.

Now I just need to find the perfect lace. And bulky clips.

Isa's First Day

This morning, Isabel starts 8th grade! The Queen of the Campus! We went to her school last night for 'Meet the Teacher' - she only has two new teachers, four of the others she had last year. The school built a new Junior High wing over the summer, so there is plenty of room of them to spread out and do their thing. Although, I thought it was quite ingenious of the school to put the sinks and mirrors in the HALLWAY instead of in the bathrooms!! The bathrooms just have 5 or 6 stalls, and the communal sink is HUGE and right outside the boys and girls rooms. I love it! No more primping and posing or messing around! They do their business and get out! Smart!

Anyway - here is a picture of Isa from this morning (that sun light was killing me!)

And here are all of their first day pics, again!

Two things to note about today... 1) I am going to be KID free for the first time in FOREVER! and 2) I can't forget to pick Nic up from the bus stop early today - it's early release.

Will someone call to remind me?! ;)

Yawwwwwwwn!

I am EXHAUSTED.

All the prep work on Sunday and then a sick doggie Sunday night / Monday morning and then getting up early to make the husband's lunch, ensure Alex was packed and ready to go and get Nic up, dressed, fed and at the school by 8am... then to come back home, work for 8 hours, make dinner, give Nic a bath, work some more, wash my sheets and comforter, and then clean up the kitchen.... left me dreaming of Zzzzs. I will admit, there were times (during my lunch break) where I started to drift off. I know this week will be the toughest, but the lazy days of summer sure are gone!

Nic's first day of Kindergarten seemed almost uneventful. When asked directly, he is very nonchalant about the whole thing. But as the night wore on last night, he let little details out about his day.

He didn't get a chance to finish his lunch  (which means he ate too slow)...
He got in trouble for touching his friends in line  (he needs to keep his hands to himself)...
He didn't want to write his name on his work, instead he wanted to put an A+ (he's soooo stubborn!)...

I had hoped this kid would be a rock star in Kindergarten - willing from the very beginning. I think he's going to be the death of me. I am asking God for patience, each and every second of the day. I want us to stay on track for Nic to enjoy school and have a love of books and learning.

The good news is, I didn't get hit with a shoe, when I went in to wake Nic up this morning. He got up, ate his breakfast and got dressed. We had plenty of time to spare... :)

Alex, my sweet 16 year old, had a good day. He got to see his girl, D, for the first time since June. He brought home all of his Syllabi (is that the right word?!) and we went over them together, signed them and got them back to school today. Off to a great start! =)

Isabel starts school tomorrow, so I will be sharing her story then! For now... she's been helping me around the house, cleaning her room, organizing her school supplies, and watching a lot of old movies.

It's only 8:15, and I've already got two kids and a husband off, dinner in the crock pot, a conference call under my belt.

I think I am going to fall asleep on purpose during my lunch break today! ;)
