At 9:30, I was watching a DVR'd 'So you think you can dance!'... and I heard this noise. I thought it was Marcos trying to get my attention and I said "Marcos?"... he said "Yeah?"... I asked him if he heard that. He did, and said it was outside. We both ran to the door - I thought someone was breaking into our garage. We rushed to get shoes on - and when we got to our driveway... this is what we saw:
(as always - click to make bigger)
Well, to be percise - this picture was taken after the Fire Truck, EMTs and teen aged drunk driver left the scene. Yes, I did say teen aged and drunk. And yes, that's just feet from my driveway. My mailbox is just down the way - I walk down that sidewalk every day.
We live on a main neighborhood street - the speed limit is 30 - the average speed driven is 50.
There is a school just north of us (in the pic, the car is just north of my truck)... There are a TON of kids - yet people still drive like idiots.
So - there were NO skid marks, and we did not hear any tire squealing... they say he rolled 5 or 6 times into the curve of the road. He barely missed a car, a tree and the light pole in our yard. He got out of the car and was walking around, talking on his cell phone.
We got him a chair to sit in - and just waited for the police. By the time the police arrived, the whole neighborhood was out (never saw half of them before in my life!). Even the cop asked me I was sick of the speeders. I certainly am. They could have easily flown into Alex and Nic's room (which is the front room of the house)...
And the view from the other side. We had no idea how bad it was - I mean, we knew it rolled - but look at the damage. The door? Gone. It's about 2 houses north of where the car stopped.
There was so much junk in the car, we had some land in our drive way. Thankfully, our cars and yard were undamaged.
Isa was awake - but Alex and Nic were asleep. I woke up Alex so that he could see the lesson in this... this is what happens to kids who drink and drive.
I am sorry that the guy was hurt, I am sorry about the accident - but at the same time I am BOILING mad that he risked so many lives. People walk down our street all the time. His car landed in the Bike Lane.
It took two hours - but the mess if finally cleared up. I will check it out tomorrow to see the damage to my neighbors yard.
