Wood you like to see something?

For like a very, very, very long time, I've wanted to do something with pallet wood. Like for weeks.
My dream became more of a reality, when I found two perfectly good pallets in the trash in our sub-division.

I made Marcos nab them for me.

My goal was to do the work myself. I didn't want to use any power tools, except for the drill (which I am comfortable with), so I enlisted Alex to help with a few things.

Alex took off the wood of the pallets, I needed 8 good pieces. And when I say "good" I mean worn, discolored, etc.

We used a hammer, a drill, screws, wood glue, and Alex's muscles.
Oh and an old fashion 'do it yourself' saw.
Yes, they still make them.

We took 6 of the pieces and put them together, I wanted them to be uneven and imperfect, so I played with the order a little. Once we got them where we wanted them, Alex sawed one of the extra pieces in half, and we used those as the braces on the back - working to keep the boards together.
I used some wood glue and attached them, and then Alex worked his magic with the drill and screws.

Once we were done with that, I had him spray paint the wood with a clear lacquer. It brought out the discoloration, dark spots and imperfections.

Here's the finished product.

When all was said and done, I realized that Alex really made this sign for me. I just was wonderful at giving orders. :)

Now, we need to decide what we are going to put on the sign and how we are going to do it. It's going in my kitchen, above my sink and window.

Off to see what I can come up with!

Happy SunSignday!

Pipe Dreams

Are you sick of my Halloween decorations yet?

The only thing I am sorry about is the fact that Nic doesn't have a complete understanding of time.
If I hear "Is it Halloween yet?" one more time, I may end up cancelling the holiday.

I showed you these pictures in an earlier post, but wanted to share with you how I made them.

I took Halloween colored pipe-cleaners (I think that's what they are called. If not, then the title of this post makes no sense) and wrapped them around the back of the frame, alternating colors. I put the frame back together and then glued on a small Halloween decoration. I used super-glue because I was too lazy to get out the glue gun.

I got the frames at the dollar store, they came two to a pack. The little decorations I got at Michael's a few years back, just never did anything with them.  I just cut off the gold thread and glue them right on to the glass.

This last piece is a dollar store frame with a wooden cat (from a previous Halloween). I used purple glitter glue on a $1.00 gold frame. And had to add the googley eyes!

Nothing fancy, but OH so much fun!

52-25=27

I lost 25 inches.

Like, overnight.

Really!

Don't believe me??

See for yourself...

In order for us to reclaim the downstairs, Marcos decided that we needed to move the 52" upstairs to the loft. The plan was always to make THAT room the movie room and the hang out room. We are so tired of the clutter and toys downstairs.

So, the hubster made it happen.

And now I have a 27" Sony. With this big BUBBLE thing on the back. A "tube?"  We have a plethora of TVs in this house. Marcos doesn't get rid of anything.

We still have the 40" in my bedroom... and that's great for late night 90210 catching up... but I miss my big TV downstairs.

There are plans to purchase a new flat screen for the family room, but for now, you can call me Mrs. Squints-A-Lot.

Oh my, how superficial is this post?!  I've been spoiled!

Never a hand model will I make...

And that was true even before the traumatic events of this morning.

My co-worker, Matt, and I spent a few minutes (at my expense) trying to come up with the perfect caption for what I am about to show you.

Here are a few ideas:

I got this nailed!
I nailed it!
Thumbs Up! (so the blood flows away from the wound!)
In & Out
Can you say TETANUS?

I went with a big ol' OUCH!

Marcos asked why I couldn't have flexed more so that my thumb appeared skinnier. Sheesh. Men.

I guess I am off to Urgent Care to get a big ol' shot.
It hurts!
The sad thing is it wasn't even a craft or anything I was working on.
Nic was messing with a decorative wagon wheel... and I noticed one of the spokes (?) was messed up, so I went to fix it.

I guess you can say, I'd take a bullet nail for Nic. Since I practically already did.
What a great mom I am.

I am feeling whoozy.
Is that normal?

Off to get a shot.

Ouch.

Love,
Queen of the Drama

I can't stop glitter painting...

Child Labor Laws?

I think the kids are ready to add an addendum to the existing Child Labor Laws...

I think they are DONE with holiday decorating.  :)  Look at the calendar, kiddos - we are getting started!!

We have a lot of Halloween going on, so I added some fall/Thanksgiving in our formal living/dining room. All stuff on hand!

I don't even drink coffee!!

At Goodwill on Saturday, Marcos and I found a square coffee table. I think square fits our space best...
The table is an orangey-yellow and has superficial scratches in a few areas.

For just over $12, we are PLEASED with this sturdy piece of furniture.  Marcos says it's my job to sand it - and he will stain it. Oh, have I got my work cut out for me. But, I think the finished piece will be perfect.

I really, really, really want to bring some cream into the family room, so I am suggesting cream on the lower half and then stain the top with a walnut. I just need to find some examples to show the spouse.

Pinterest, here I come!
