Thursday Night Excitement

At 9:30, I was watching a DVR'd 'So you think you can dance!'... and I heard this noise. I thought it was Marcos trying to get my attention and I said "Marcos?"... he said "Yeah?"... I asked him if he heard that. He did, and said it was outside. We both ran to the door - I thought someone was breaking into our garage. We rushed to get shoes on - and when we got to our driveway... this is what we saw:

(as always - click to make bigger)

Well, to be percise - this picture was taken after the Fire Truck, EMTs and teen aged drunk driver left the scene. Yes, I did say teen aged and drunk. And yes, that's just feet from my driveway. My mailbox is just down the way - I walk down that sidewalk every day.
We live on a main neighborhood street - the speed limit is 30 - the average speed driven is 50.
There is a school just north of us (in the pic, the car is just north of my truck)... There are a TON of kids - yet people still drive like idiots.

So - there were NO skid marks, and we did not hear any tire squealing... they say he rolled 5 or 6 times into the curve of the road. He barely missed a car, a tree and the light pole in our yard. He got out of the car and was walking around, talking on his cell phone.

We got him a chair to sit in - and just waited for the police. By the time the police arrived, the whole neighborhood was out (never saw half of them before in my life!). Even the cop asked me I was sick of the speeders. I certainly am. They could have easily flown into Alex and Nic's room (which is the front room of the house)...

And the view from the other side. We had no idea how bad it was - I mean, we knew it rolled - but look at the damage. The door? Gone. It's about 2 houses north of where the car stopped.

There was so much junk in the car, we had some land in our drive way. Thankfully, our cars and yard were undamaged.

Isa was awake - but Alex and Nic were asleep. I woke up Alex so that he could see the lesson in this... this is what happens to kids who drink and drive.

I am sorry that the guy was hurt, I am sorry about the accident - but at the same time I am BOILING mad that he risked so many lives. People walk down our street all the time. His car landed in the Bike Lane.

It took two hours - but the mess if finally cleared up. I will check it out tomorrow to see the damage to my neighbors yard.

So, that was the ball game. We had tons of Cracker Jack's, Nachos, water, peanuts...but we still wanted more. So, we all piled into our vehicles and made our way to Aunt Anita's house where we had Hamburgers, hotdogs and Brats. It was 111* outside... so we spent a lot of time in the pool. However, I was too tired to continue to take pics (plus, I don't think my camera is water resistant!).
All in all, it was a great Father's Day - I hope the guys enjoyed it!

Got Bacon?

Click here for the short video: http://s18.photobucket.com/albums/b135/76Chick/?action=view&current=CIMG4483.flv

hehehe... I think he's trying to say "I eat Bacon like you for breakfast!"
What a funny boy!

Early Morning Adventures

So, for the last two weeks - my girlfriend (Kacey) and I have been taking the kids to the park. We went, both times, on Sunday morning - early. I say early for two reasons; 1) The boys take their AM nap around 11am and 2) can you say 100* by 9? HOT! So, it's something we plan on doing almost every Sunday. We've tried to nearby parks so far - and I think I like the one closest to her best (they have a nice kids area). However, the one next to me has a "lake" and ducks. So - we may still alternate.

Here are some pics from last Sunday's Early Morning Adventure. (Not photographed: Grammy's (graham crackers), a million or so ants, and two grown adults trying to be kids again.)

Tyler is a shy boy - as you can see from the pic below...

Nic was like "Look mom, there's a boy!"

Wonder what Nic was bribing him with here...

Nic and Isa - heading to the park.

The park.

Nic playing.

Nic and Tyler.

"Go! " Go!" "Go!"

Kacey and her little man -taking a water break!

We had a really nice time - and I sincerely hope we can keep it up!
Tomorrow (Sunday) we are doing an all-day Father's Day (grilling, tickets to the D-backs game, and some swimming) - so I will have to take a rain check tomorrow for the park.

BTW, I Heart Summer! =)

Oh - one last pic. The other night I walked into the play room and saw this:

I thought it was a little quiet!! hehe. And Yes - Nic was sleeping like that. Such a silly boy!

Update on our 18 mo old. (6/7/08)

Alright – update on Nic.

He had his developmental evaluation last week – and passed – so we will not be doing any type of therapy. The nice lady said that “Quack” was a word! Lol… And since then, he does a much better job of saying Isa (should be eee-saa, he says eats-uh) and he says something like “cogs” for the dogs. I am not too worried – and neither was she. Nic does a lot of pointing, bringing me to things, giving me things – she says that he is above average (based on his adjusted age of 15 months) for Gross Motor Skills. So, I am pleased as punch. At his doctor’s appointment on Thursday afternoon – Nic weighed in at 26lbs even, and is 33” tall (and his head is 47cm). He is in the 50th percentile for full term 18 month olds – the doc said she has been kinda shocked about him. She said no one could ever tell he was born so premature. This kid has me on guard 24/7. He loves to investigate things, and gets into everything. /sigh. Family life? Eh, still working for the Bank (decided against leaving just yet). Alex is in a Summer program from another 2 weeks (it’s to help him get ready for Jr High). And he starts guitar lessons on Monday. Isabel has been staying with my family members, they rotate – and she’s been swimming A LOT and learning to crochet and doing puzzles. My mom has a reading challenge for her – 20 books this summer = $25. So, she’s been keeping busy with that, too. Our vacation is planned for July 21 (the week of) – but I am not sure what we are going to do. Gas went up 12 cents during the day yesterday (while I was at work) – we now have to pay $4.15/gallon. Grrr. We are getting family pictures done @ the end of the month (with all 7 of the kid cousins) – should be cute. And I think that’s about it. I haven’t taken any new pics recently – the one in my sig is from last month. But we are going to the park with my girlfriend in the morning – so I will take some then. We have to go @ 7am, cuz by 10- it’s already almost 100* out there. =) So, pics tomorrow.
